What States Are Banning Abortion For 2022 | Active Bans.

Since the election of Donald Trump, there has been a surge in state-level legislation that seeks to ban abortion. So far, sixteen states have passed bills that restrict abortion access, and more are expected to follow suit.

This is a huge step back for women’s rights, and it could have disastrous consequences for those who need abortions. In this post, we will take a closer look at these new laws and what they mean for women across the country.

There are many different reasons why people support or oppose abortion bans. Supporters of abortion bans believe that abortion is morally wrong and that it should be illegal.

They may also believe that abortion is dangerous and that women who have abortions are putting their health at risk.

Opponents of abortion bans argue that women have a right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that abortion should remain legal as a matter of personal freedom.

They also argue that abortion bans would not stop women from seeking abortions, but would only make them more dangerous.

Alabama

In June, Alabama passed the most restrictive abortion law in the country. The law bans all abortions, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.

Arkansas

The first state to pass an abortion ban was Arkansas, which did so in March of 2017. The law, which was signed by Governor Asa Hutchinson, prohibits abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Arizona

Arizona bans abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.

Florida

Florida bans abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.

Georgia and Louisiana

Most recently, Georgia and Louisiana have both passed so-called “heartbeat bills.” These laws ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, before many women even know they are pregnant.

Louisiana

Louisiana bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. The law has no exceptions for rape or incest.

Idaho

Idaho bans abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.

Iowa

Iowa followed suit in July, passing a law that bans abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This law also requires a 72-hour waiting period before an abortion can be performed.

Indiana

Indiana bans abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. There are no exceptions for rape or incest.

Mississippi

Next came Mississippi, which passed a law in April that bans abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy. This law includes an exception for cases of rape or incest.

Missouri

Missouri bans abortions after eight weeks of pregnancy, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. The law has no exceptions for rape or incest.

Ohio

Just a few weeks later, Ohio joined the ranks of states with restrictive abortion laws. The Ohio law bans abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for rape or incest.

South Dakota

South Dakota bans abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, except in cases where the mother’s life is at risk. The law has no exceptions for rape or incest.

Kentucky and Texas

Both Kentucky and Texas passed laws that ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. These laws have no exceptions for rape or incest.

On May 7, 2019, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed into law a bill that bans abortion once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which is typically at around six weeks of pregnancy.

The law includes exceptions for cases of rape and incest, but only if the woman reports the crime to authorities within 45 days. If she does not do so, she will be forced to carry the pregnancy to term.

Conclusion

These laws will force women to travel long distances to get an abortion, and they will make it harder for low-income women to afford the procedure. In some cases, these laws could even put women’s lives at risk.
