Birth Control – Frequently Asked Questions

Nuva Ring | Orlando Women’s Center.

It is a soft, flexible, transparent ring containing hormones (estrogen and progestin) and is inserted into the vagina on a monthly basis. It is like other hormonal methods which allow you to have a menstrual period. It is pressed together between two fingers and inserted into the vagina to fit around the cervix. The ring is worn for three weeks, and then removed. After a complete ring-free week, a new ring is inserted into the vagina. You must have a medical exam, including vaginal exam and Pap Smear. The ring is 99% effective. It does not protect against HIV or other STD’s.
